AJA details Io XT for video editing professionals
AJA Video on Friday released its Io XT. The add-on connects to a Mac with a Thunderbolt interface and can daisy-chain to another or other video devices through a variety of connections. It support many capture and playback formats, unifying them through its 10-bit hardware up-, down- and cross-conversion capability.
Apple FCPX FAQ talks big features in updates
Apple has quietly posted an FAQ for Final Cut Pro X to tackle the complaints and concerns in the wake of a controversial release. The answers more formally address questions to the media and make multiple promises of updates. Multicam editing is coming to a future Final Cut Pro update, something which Apple says it couldn't roll into a minor patch but had to come soon.
AJA Ki Pro recorder
Professional video interface and conversion hardware maker AJA Video Systems on Monday at NAB show introduced the Ki Pro portable tapeless video device that records files to the Apple ProRes 422 codec directly from camera. The device has a large variety of analog and digital connections, allowing content from nearly any video and audio source to be recorded in the format. These recordings can then be edited without transcoding in Final Cut Studio 2. Media in 4:2:2 HD or SD format is recorded to a removable storage module via a FireWire 800 or 34mm ExpressCard Flash interface.
Io HD, KONA OK for Mac Pro
AJA recently announced that its Io HD and KONA lines of video capture equipment fully support the new eight-core Mac Pro, which is based on Intelís new Xeon 5400 processors. Despite undergoing a complete overhaul, the upgraded components do not pose a problem for AJA; normally, major changes to internal hardware can pose problems for sensitive high-end equipment, usually prompting a patch or complete replacement of equipment if users wish to upgrade.
