Overseas developments to be adapted for US frequencies, bandwidth requirements
Verizon,Â the first company to introduce "4G" LTE wireless network technology about six years ago, has unveiled preliminary details of a test program of 5G wireless networks in the US. By working closely with key partners, Verizon aims to launch field technology trials next year.
Connectivity map, high-speed mobile network in development for UK capital
London will be one of the first major cities in the world to be covered by a 5G mobile Internet service, the city's mayor has pledged, among other connectivity claims. Mayor Boris Johnson revealed the city is working with the University of Surrey to develop part of the capital's long-term infrastructure investment plan, which should lead to the 5G mobile network being deployed by 2020.
High-speed network technology research announced by UK Prime Minister
United Kingdom will work with Germany to create the next generation of wireless communications technology, revealed UK Prime Minister David Cameron at CeBit in Germany. The two countries will collaborate together on the 5G connections, which Cameron hopes could cut the time it takes to download an 800MB file down from 4G's 40-second transfer time to just one second.
5G concept promises high speed, high capacity, low latency
Japanese carrier NTT DoCoMo is planning to demonstrate what it believes to be the successor to current 4G LTE services. A stand at the CEATEC technology exhibition in Japan will have the carrier showing off its "concept for the next-generation mobile communication system," along with other items such as intelligent glasses and new models of smartphone.

While carriers around the world are still working on their 4G LTE network deployment plans, the next generation of cellular networks is being worked on by Samsung. The manufacturer has announced it has developed an adaptive array transceiver technology, which will apparently form the core of 5G networks by 2020.
Research to create next generation of mobile standards
A research center has been created in the UK to help in the development in 5G networks. The 5G Center is a partnership between the University of Surrey and various mobile companies, which will look into maximizing the use of the limited radio spectrum available, as well as making the future standard “greener” than previous versions.
Korea Developing 5G
Although fourth-generation (4G) cellular wireless still has yet to hold its own, the South Korean government is already developing 5G access that may be ready soon after 4G services go live, the country's officials say (registration required). The country hopes to invest money equal to $58.4 million over the next three years into both advancing 4G access and to starting work on 5G at the same time. Doing so is said to hopefully make the Asian country the top-ranked cellphone producer in the world by setting a 4G standard and becoming the primary source of 4G on the planet.
