Photo community, application and image host 500px released information on Prime, a licensing marketplace for users that wish to sell their photos for others to use. While the service will display photos based on user voting and offers $250 for licensing fees, 500px will be keeping a large cut of the proceeds.
Photo hosting site 500px has released a significant update of its iOS app, v2.2. The upgrade includes a new, translucent "edge-to-edge" design, allowing images to fill more screen space. The iPad has received still extra design improvements, including a better photo details drawer -- displaying each person who likes or favorites a submission -- as well as the general display of friends' avatars alongside their likes, favorites, and comments in the Flow view.
Flickr revamped the web version of its Uploadr tool on Wednesday. The new version has switched to HTML5 with a more natural drag-and-drop interface to load photos. Making the switch now lets Flickr show thumbnails, like the native desktop and mobile apps, as well as reorder images, tag friends, and otherwise handle most tasks that would have needed to wait until afterwards.
Photography hosting and selling website 500px has just added a new membership option to its two existing offerings. The new $20 per year Plus Membership option fits neatly in-between the free option and the $50 annual Awesome Membership. Unlike the free option, it allows unlimited uploads and unlimited collections, just like the Awesome option, though loses the costlier membership's personalized portfolio features.
Flickr senior product lead Markus Spiering in a far-ranging interview previewed some of its first major overhauls to Flickr for years. A February 28 overhaul outlined to BetaBeat will remake the photo preview page, turning it into a mosaic with larger shots and information only when it's needed. The new upload page is now more akin to a mobile app with a more visual drag-and-drop interface.
