The International Herald Tribune, a globally-themed version of the New York Times, is now available at the App Store in versions for the iPhone and iPad. The main difference is a greater emphasis on news from outside the US, and separate refreshes of news items for Asian and European mornings. A Latest News section pulls content from global.nytimes.com to ensure breaking stories are represented.
Similarly, the Business section relies on content form Reuters. Editorial columnists from the Times are joined by an international group of writers. Some other features of the app include a Video section, a Day in Pictures slideshow, and a World Weather tool with forecasts and satellite maps.
Both apps are currently free with a registration, but not for long. Like the Times itself, the Tribune is set to go behind a paywall in early 2011. The shift could come in time for iTunes subscription support.
