DataWind intros PocketSurfer3, UbiSurfer
DataWind has announced details of three upcoming new portable devices capable of accessing the Internet, with its PocketSurfer3 and PocketSurfer3 Lite, which are follow-ups to the company's PocketSurfer2 device, and the UbiSurfer. All three include one year of Internet access, although it's limited to 30 hours per month. The new PocketSurfers sport a 5-inch, 640x240 resolution screen and are powered by Linux. Apart from Wi-Fi and GPRS network access, there is a GPS sensor built-in.

The differences between the PocketSurfer3 and PocketSurfer3 Lite have not been made clear, but DataWind claims a full battery charge endows them with 4 hours of operation.

The UbiSurfer is being touted as a netbook, though it has specs that do not compete with larger counterparts. It has a 7-inch, 800x480 screen, 1GB solid state drive (SSD) and 128MB of RAM. There is also an SD card slot, three USB ports, and an integrated microphone and speaker. Preloaded software includes a proprietary web browser, calendar, media player, a XIP Office suite and clients for e-mail and basic image editing.

The UbiSurfer is due to ship in October, priced at $199, while the PocketSurfer3 should cost $249. Pricing for the PocketSurfer3 Lite has not been revealed. [via Pocket-lint]
