New Snow Leopard build tweaks speed, interface
Apple is seeding a new beta build of Mac OS X Snow Leopard, developers say. Titled 10A402a, the build measures 1.3GB, and is the second to have arrive in a span of two weeks. Although Apple describes the software as having "general operating system fixes for stability, compatibility, and security," the most noticeable changes are said to include responsiveness, which is faster throughout the OS.

The build also displays some interface tweaks, such as darker, dimpled slider buttons. More obvious is a new contextual pop-up menu for the Dock, which now displays white text on a charcoal background, instead of black text on silver. The format stands in stark contrast to most of Mac OS X, but is consistent with some other tweaks, such as the look of QuickTime X.

Snow Leopard is set to launch in October, and cost approximately $29 as an upgrade for Leopard owners, or more new.
