The next update for Mac OS X Leopard is rapidly advancing towards release, reports suggest. Build 9L22 of v10.5.8 is said to have been delivered to developers on Wednesday, following the distribution of 9L20 last Friday. Such turnaround times are typically a sign of imminent release for Apple software, evidence for which may be backed by a shift in testing focus.Whereas developers were asked to evaluate imaging-related components with 9L20, 9L22's focus is said to be on inputs and outputs, as well as other base frameworks. Only four fixes and one known problem are claimed to exist in the beta, the latter involving saved e-mails. The brief attention paid to each part of the operating system may also suggest that v10.5.8 will be the last Leopard update before the launch of Mac OS X Snow Leopard, scheduled for September. As with Tiger, Leopard updates may continue past the arrival of a new OS.
Problems addressed in 9L22 include USB audio distortion, FireWire power management and troubles with Bluetooth-enabled printers.
