Developer XChange has announced updates to a key set of publishing plug-ins, designed to mesh layouts with database information. Previously available for QuarkXPress and other versions of InDesign, the plug-ins are now said to have been upgraded with InDesign CS4 support. First among them is InData, which attempts to simplify repetitive publishing tasks by building scripts which include or exclude particular fields or pictures.InCatalog is used to link InDesign files with databases, so that updated figures in a database are transferred to InDesign documents, and vice versa. Xtags, lastly, imports and exports text while retaining styling, whether using InDesign, QuarkXPress or Xtags-specific cues. Some supported tasks include anchoring and filling text boxes, building unanchored boxes, and resizing content to boxes, as well as boxes to content.
Sold new, InData, InCatalog and Xtags cost $391, $702 and $351, respectively. Cheaper upgrade versions are also available in some circumstances.
