Polaroid intros PoGo camera with built-in printer

At CES on Thursday, Polaroid officially introduced the PoGo instant digital camera that prints its own images. The camera effectively integrates the PoGo printer out in stores since the summer and introduced at last year’s CES to produce the images. Interestingly, Polaroid did not release the megapixel count of the camera, nor is it visible anywhere on the body – a definitive break from the norm. Otherwise, users get a 3-inch LCD screen and a 4x digital zoom. Onboard storage is limited to 16MB, but is expandable via SD cards.

Like in the Pogo printer, the print media comes from ZINK, which is comprised of special paper that releases colors depending on the amount of heat applied to it by the PoGo’s “printer.” The camera ships with 10 sheets of the ZINK media, with additional 10-packs priced at $5 and larger packs offered in a bulk discount. Unlike in Polaroid’s original nearly instantly-ready photos, users can edit their photos before printing by cropping them and/or adding border images.

The PoGo camera printer will be available in March, with pricing set at $199.
