ModelBaker 1.0 handles iPhone, Android web apps
Widget Press has posted the first version of ModelBaker, a development tool for Macs. The software is specifically designed to create web applications, and in addition to apps built for desktops and notebooks, can be used to produce mobile sites for iPhones, iPod touches and Android-based cellphones. After enabling the appropriate checkbox, developers can rebuild an existing site to be delivered in mobile format.

ModelBaker is said to require no programming experience, as elements like themes, images and style sheets can be added without manual coding, and site organization can be modeled visually. The program nevertheless supports MySQL databases and the Ext JS framework; it is also capable of PHP 4.3.2- and 5-compliant code, and any files generated can be opened with a text editor for tweaking. ModelBaker runs on Intel Macs with Mac OS X 10.5 or later, and costs $400 for a single-user license.
