Microsoft's Mac Business Unit has announced 75-percent-off pricing for Office 2008 for Mac: Special Media Edition during the Black Friday sales period that kicks off the holiday shopping season. The discount will be available online during Thursday and Friday only from Apple, Amazon.com and BestBuy Online. Apple will also offer the deal at its retail stores on Friday. For customers that miss the Black Friday sale, the software will be sold at 50-percent-off retail prices through the end of the year.

The discount applies to the Special Media Edition, which bundles Microsoft Word, Excel, Entourage and PowerPoint, along with Microsoft Expression Media, a visual catalog for images, documents, fonts and more. The Media Edition also offers Microsoft Server Exchange support and Automator Actions for Office.

The retail price of Office 2008 for Mac: Special Media Edition is $500, which would be lowered to $125 for the two-day period or $250 through the year, although specific reseller prices may vary. The software requires Mac OS X 10.4.9 or higher and 512MB RAM. Several features may require an Internet connection or Exchange Server 2000.

In addition to the Office 2008 special price, Best Buy will also offer the Microsoft Explorer Mouse for $50, cutting the retail price by 50 percent. The sale is only valid on Friday.
