FontAgent Pro Server 3 adds replicated font servers
Insider Software has released FontAgent Pro Server 3, with replicated font server technology headlining the new release. The new font server also adds advanced directory services integration, and security and performance enhancements. Insider claims that Pro Server 3 is the first and currently only option for providing redundant, replicated font servers, allowing administrators to distribute server loads using a master font server, which then replicates changes to all of the remote servers in the chain.

The new server also provides zero-config directory services, which automatically recognize users and groups on LDAP and Active or Open Directory servers. Variable rights levels are distributed to different users or groups, and 128-bit AES encryption is now applied to user passwords for added security.

The software works to manage, distribute and synchronize fonts for workgroups in small to large organizations. The app further supports multiple cores, and uses caching to reduce CPU loads, allowing for faster syncing and font activations.

Pro Server 3 requires Mac OS X 10.4 or higher, but despite its name, does not need dedicated server hardware. The software is priced at $1,700 per server, while the master replication server costs $3,000. Each connected user requires a licensed version of the FontAgent Pro client, priced at $130 per seat or less under volume arrangements.
