GroupWise 8 update adds dashboard and Web 2.0 apps
Novell has released GroupWise 8, an update to its productivity and collaboration software that adds a customizable dashboard and Web 2.0 workspaces. The new version's dashboard allows users to interact with e-mail, calendar, contacts and task lists in one location, and features Web 2.0 enabled team workspaces, blogs, RSS feeds and applications. All the features work through the dashboard, which also allows administrators easy access and control, working across all three major platforms, supporting Macs, Windows and Linux.

GroupWise 8 also adds an interactive home view with Web 2.0 applications built in, allowing users to focus on their work tasks without having to reroute to other applications. Version 8 now features support for numerous handheld devices, like iPhones, BlackBerrys and Palm-based handsets. It also has an enhanced calendar and improved contact management, with support for contact visuals like maps, photos and more.

The new version is now available for $143 per license. It requires Mac OS X 10.3 or later and Java Virtual Machine (JVM) 1.4.2 or higher. The WebAccess client requires the latest version of either Safari (currently v3.2) or Firefox (currently v3.0.4).
