GlobeSurfer III 3G wireless router supports Macs
nova media has released the GlobeSurfer III, a 3G wireless router for the Mac. The router can link to a mobile network using WLAN (802.11 B and G networks) and gigabit Ethernet to distribute the connection. The router supports up to 7.2Mb/s downloads speeds and 5.7Mb/s upload speeds. It also links to the Internet via WLAN connections at 54Mb/s speeds.

The new router is set up through a web browser window with a quick-setup wizard. It supports advanced firewalls and gateways, with WEP, WPA and WPA2 security available. The router is compatible with HSPA and 3G UMTS networks at 850, 900, 1900 and 2100MHz levels, and connects to quad-band EDGE and GPRS 850, 900, 1800 and 1900MHz networks. It has a connection for an external antenna and features receiver diversity and equalization technology for optimizing weak wireless signals.

The GlobeSurfer III has a USB port to add a printer or external hard drive to the wireless network. It can also have a standard telephone connected, allowing a user to make and receive calls over the wireless network. The new router is now available for €285 (about $416).
