MonkeyBread Software has released the latest version of its PDF utility, Combine PDFs 4.0. The update features a new Quartz filter menu, support for file encryption, and metadata transfer. The software can be used to combine several PDF files, allowing users to drop documents or pictures into the application or main window. Users can also reorder and remove pages, or edit the metadata information such as file title. The 40-bit encryption is intended for everyday use, but the software company admits that the level is "not hard to break for an advanced computer user." The Quartz filters allow application of effects to the files while they are being written. The "reduce file size" filter will reduce the amount of data in the PDF by compressing any images in the file to a lower resolution. Combine PDFs for Mac OS X is available now for $30.
