VideoPier manages MPEG2 and AVCHD for Macs
Aquafadas has released VideoPier 1.0, an MPEG-2 and AVCHD-capable organizer and converter. The software is based on the open-source ffmpeg component, and is available in standard and HD versions. It transfers the two video types from camcorders to a user's Mac, and can play clips in a window or in a full-screen mode. The software organizes clips by events within the interface, and can export to iMovie '06 and '08, as well as formats including QuickTime, iPhone, Apple TV or (with VideoPier HD) Final Cut Pro. Exported files are tracked.

VideoPier also imports previously-copied clips from other locations, and in its HD version adds HDV capture from tape-based camcorders, along with scene detection, date extraction, custom file naming and file date override.

VideoPier requires Mac OS X 10.4.4 or better and a minimum of a 1GHz processor (G4, G5 or Intel) and 512MB RAM. It is available for download for either $50 (VideoPier) or $80 (VideoPier HD).
