CodeWeavers on Monday announced CrossOver Chromium, its port of Google's Chrome browser now developed to work on Mac and Linux systems. Google recently launched the Webkit based open source browser, although initially just for Windows. Chromium lacks the auto-updating functions of Chrome, and is not intended to be a primary use browser, as the whole Chrome project is in its earliest stages of functionality. CodeWeavers used its Wine intermediary tool to allow Chromium to function across the platforms.Chrome is being developed to streamline web browsing, boost browser reliability, and increase security. The processes for each tab are kept separate- when one fails, that tab shows an error but the rest can keep going. More restrictions are placed on the type of information sites have access to from the user's computer. |
