AT&T has already been expanding the capabilities of the U-verse system for customers in certain areas. If a user isn't home but wants to record a show, they can use an internet connection, even from mobile, to schedule a DVR recording. The iPhone will also work as a remote control for the cable box, with specialized apps being created for other functions as well.

"We're looking at the whole landscape, of what people use, and what's out there in the home," said John Donovan, AT&T Chief Technology Officer. Customers can expect to see some of these services available later this year.
