LaCie has announced the latest addition to its line of storage devices featuring Neil Poulton design, the 4big Quadra 4-bay RAID system. The array can be configured to write data in seven different RAID modes, including RAID 0 for faster speeds or RAID 5 for protection, with each drive hot-swappable if needed. Four Quadra units can be stacked or chained to quadruple the potential storage capacity and increase the transfer speeds to 600 MB per second, according to LaCie.The 4Big Quadra supports eSATA, FireWire 400/800, or USB 2.0 connections. The company claims burst transfer rates of 200-230MB/s using eSATA 3Gbits and RAID 0, while creating 25 to 29dBA operating noise. The package includes Genie or Intego Backup Manager Pro software for Windows or Mac, cables for all connection types, power supply, and Lacie Utilities CD-ROM. The LaCie 4big Quadra is available in 2TB, 4TB, or 6TB capacities, for $850, $1300, or $1750, respectively.
