Demand for Macs remains hig...
Apple may be one of the few computer makers to continue doing well throughout tough economic problems, a new ChangeWave survey indicates. Of 4,416 people polled in August, only 15 percent said they would spend more on electronics in the next 90 days, while 34 percent said they would be spending less. Although the number predicting less is traditionally higher except in November, the gap for August is still 13 points greater than it was during the same period last year, nearing a record level.

Only 8 percent of people in the study planned to buy a notebook in the next 90 days, and 5 percent were aiming for a notebook. The proportion aiming for a Mac is higher than ever however, with 34 percent of notebook buyers looking for a MacBook, and 30 percent of desktop shoppers hunting for an iMac, Mac mini or Mac Pro. 17 percent of survey respondents, meanwhile, said the iPhone 3G has made them more likely to buy an Apple computer. Just 1 percent said the new iPhone was a deterrent.

This compares to Apple rivals Dell and HP, who are currently suffering in the marketplace. The former's notebook figures are down 4 points to 28 percent, though desktop numbers rose 3 points to also sit at 28 percent. HP's percentages have slipped 4 and 3 points, and now sit at 20 and 17 for each product category.
