AT&T has largely committed to its rumored October launch for the BlackBerry Bold, according to a leaked press release obtained at BGR. Although dated for release today, the template announcement specifically indicates plans by the carrier to launch the 3G BlackBerry sometime next month for $300 on contract but leaves the exact day blank, leaving open the possibility of a last-minute change. The release also confirms support for some AT&T-specific features, such as TeleNav subscriptions for GPS mapping, the company's CV video streaming service and the AT&T Music download store. AT&T is rumored to be preparing the official release for this week's CTIA show.
An October launch on AT&T finally sets up an expected competition between RIM and Apple. The Bold was originally slated for a summer launch but has missed this window for unknown reasons; the device is believed to be affected by multiple bugs and intermittent 3G access that prevented the device from shipping in suitable condition. Carriers like Rogers and T-Mobile Germany have allegedly shipped the devices with rough firmware.
