Bare Bones has released v9.0 of BBEdit, its text and code editing software. The key addition to the software is said to be the addition of Projects, which replace file groups, and allow users to directly create, delete and rename files and folders. The contents of Projects can be searched, as well as processed through text factories.Other basic features of the software now include text completion, whether for words or programming code, and the Scratchpad, which lets users edit text separately without having to create a separate file. Contents of the Scratchpad are saved automatically.
The update also brings support improvements for several programming languages -- including Ruby, PHP, Xcode, JavaScript and Objective-C/C++ -- as well as "transparent" bz2 compatibility, and automatic support folder sync through MobileMe. BBEdit costs $125 new, but upgrades from v8.5 through v8.7 are free, and earlier copies can be upgraded for $30.
