Cycorder offers free iPhone video recording
Jay Freeman, the developer of Cydia -- a popular installer app for jailbroken iPhones -- has released Cycorder (website to come soon), a free native iPhone video recorder. Cycorder is said to use MJPEG compression, the same format used in the majority of point-and-shoot cameras with video support. This allows users to play video immediately after recording, instead of waiting for compression to finish.

Recorded videos are then listed by time recorded, with a thumbnail of the first frame making it easier to distinguish between multiple clips. Audio support has not been included yet, but modmyiphone reports that the author is already working out a solution. Depending on the success of the app's current ad-based strategy, the audio update may either be free or a premium upgrade which will also remove ads.

Cycorder is available now through Cydia, which requires users to jailbreak their iPhone first.
