Users note iTunes downgrade helps with iPhone crashes
With all of the buzz and tension surrounding problems with the iPhone/iPod touch 2.0+ software updates, some users have reported a unique solution, according to posts on Apple's support forums. One common malfunction is crashing of the system or apps after upgrading the software to the new 2.0.1 or 2.0.2 versions, both of which Apple claim include bug fixes. Users have reported that iTunes v 7.7.1 might have something to do with the problems.

A number of responses indicate that syncing phones between iTunes v 7.7.1 and iPhone 2.0.1/2 started the problems, and that downgrading iTunes back down to v 7.7 and running the software updates again solved the crashing problems. Apple has not formally confirmed this method as a fix, but CEO Steve Jobs claimed a software update will be released in September to take care of the bug responsible for crashing the apps.

Many users have been experiencing seperate reliability issues with the voice connections. Calls have been dropped when switching from the 3G networks to a lower network, such as 2G EDGE. Jobs reportedly acknowledged the 3G network issues in two percent of the total phones released, and claimed Apple was working on a software solution. This is all in addition to the MobileMe problems that have pushed Apple to extend subscriptions, first by a month and now by an additional 60 days.
