Automatic online backup, st...
Iomega has added a new downloadable software bundle to their external hard drive offerings, that combines EMC's Retrospect Express backup and recovery software with Mozy's online backup service. Iomega is calling the new package a 'total storage solution' in one box. New purchasers of Iomega hard drives will be able to download a free license of Retrospect Express for Macintosh 6.1, and gain access to a free MozyHome 2GB account. An offer of unlimited MozyHome online storage for $5 per month is also available. The new bundle will ship with Iomega external hard drives later this month in the US, with international availability later in the Summer.

"The combination of Iomega external hard drives with Retrospect backup software integrated with Mozy online backup service means storing, protecting and accessing digital files is now easier than ever before," said Jonathan Huberman, President of the Consumer and Small Business Products Group at EMC. "Computer users now have a seamless backup system for local backup of every file, as well as backup to the cloud for files that warrant another copy. This bundled solution provides the versatility of any time, anywhere access." Iomega offers hard drives in both desktop and portable configurations, topping out currently at 320GB portable drives and 1.5TB desktop drives. The drives offer USB 2.0 and FireWire 400 options, with SATA and FireWire 800 available on some desktop models. Retrospect Express for Macintosh 6.1 protects a single Macintosh desktop or notebook computer, backing up data to internal/external hard drives, network-attached storage and CDs/DVDs. MozyHome's online-backup service has not been integrated into Retrospect Express for Macintosh 6.1 (as it has been for Windows users), but the MozyHome software is available on the Iomega download site and supports Mac OS X 10.4 and above.
