equinux on Friday released MediaCentral 2.8, its software-based media center solution for Mac OS X. MediaCentral now fully supports the latest addition to the TubeStick family (TubeStick hybrid), enabling US users to watch live digital and analog television within Media Central. The software supports numerous popular audio- and video formats, including IP TV, digital TV, movies, DVD, IP radio, pictures, music, games and even Skype. MediaCentral 2.8 now has the same TV engine as the new and innovative TV application The Tube. When TubeStick hybrid is being used in conjunction with MediaCentral, users can access saved locations, thus eliminating the need to again search for channels.
In addition, TV channels can be controlled with the Apple Remote, making it simple to pause the current TV show and catch up later using Timeshift.
Version 2.8 also provides access to TV shows that have been recorded with The Tube. Users can easily navigate through their library with the Apple Remote, choose their preferred recording and start playback. It is also possible to activate closed captioning while watching with the Apple Remote.
MediaCentral 2.8 is a free update for all registered users. The full version is €25 for a single-user license, €34 for a three-Mac license, and €50 for a five-Mac license.. The TubeStick hybrid TV tuner/receiver is available for $130.
