Emotion FX engine finds its way to Mac

Despite Steve Jobs infamous distaste for the gaming industry, Apple appears to be actively seeking relationships with gaming companies, such as the recent unveiling of MysticGD’s Emotion FX animation software for Mac. PC Advisor writes that the software is currently used by several in the industry, such as Warhammer Online, and Vangard: Saga of Heroes. Developers of the middleware software say the move comes in response to increasing popularity of the Macintosh platform.

"We are pleased to support PowerPC and Intel-based Macs and are looking forward to work closely together with more Mac developers," said John van der Burg, development director of MysticGD.

In addition to the recent announcement, Apple’s relationship with Electronic Arts has become increasingly strong. EA originally shipped six game titles using the Cider virtualization software for play on Intel Macs, and is following up with other major titles such as Spore, and Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince.

Apple’s iPhone is also an unexpected part of the company’s gaming strategy, with several developers unveiling game projects at the recent SDK Roadmap event.
