Line forms at Fifth Ave Apple Store in NYC
A massive line formed unexpectedly today at Apple's flagship Fifth Avenue store in New York City, observers say. Accounts indicate that at one stage during the day the line was in excess of 60 people long, even though customers can technically visit the shop at any time of day or night, bypassing the large crowds at peak periods. Lines only typically form at the Fifth Avenue store for major launches, such as that of the iPhone.
It remains unclear as to why the line formed, as Apple does not have any special events planned for today, nor does it have any announced product launches scheduled during the next week. Some participants in the line are said to have been confused as to why they were there, while a few claimed to be waiting for a 3G iPhone, even though it is only expected to be revealed at WWDC on June 9th, and shipped later that month.
Apple employees allegedly had to engage in special crowd control, as they were concerned that shoppers might otherwise begin "screaming" at workers, and make it difficult for normal visitors to pass through the aisles.
