O2, Carphone: More 2.5G iPhones inbound

UK residents worried that they may no longer be able to get a 2.5G iPhone are safe, reports say. Although Carphone Warehouse sold out last week, and the O2 website presently states that neither the 8GB or 16GB iPhones are available, representatives from both retailers say that more stocks are inbound or already present for some of their sales venues. O2 notes that more 16GB iPhones have been ordered for web sales, while its high street retail stores should still have some in stock.

Carphone says it has also managed to obtain 16GB phones for its retail shops, but that the situation for online stocks is currently being analyzed.

Apple, as usual, has attempted to maintain consistent numbers of both 8 and 16GB devices, but 8GB models may have otherwise disappeared from UK shelves. O2 and Carphone say they are reviewing online and offline stocks, but a price cut is set to expire on June 1st, only days before many analysts believe Apple will announce a 3G iPhone. As such, it is expected that neither of the UK's third-party iPhone retailers will order more 8GB phones, which would have to be priced at a severe discount to be cleared from inventory.
