iPhone SDK opens to international developers
The iPhone SDK is now open to developers from outside the United States, language on Apple's official website indicates. Whereas the site previously stated that "the iPhone Developer Program will initially be available to a limited number of developers in the U.S. and will expand to other countries in the coming months," a message now says that it "will initially be available to a limited number of developers during the beta period."
Apple has yet to publicly announce international availability, but it is said that coders in the UK have already managed to enter the program, at a cost of £59 ($117). This is slightly more than the equivalent US fee, which is $99. Another coder in Norway is also claiming to have been accepted.
The support of international developers may be essential to the success of Apple's forthcoming App Store; not only is the iPhone sold in or coming to regions which do not speak English, but the developers of some popular English-language Mac apps are located abroad as well.
