Eye-Fi Manager 1.5 adds 'Smart Boost'
The Eye-Fi crew today released Eye-Fi Manager 1.5, an update to the Eye-Fi Card firmware that adds a new feature -- 'Smart Boost' -- to make wireless photo uploads more efficient and determine the most efficient way to upload photos to a desired location. "In the past, the Eye-Fi Card would first upload your photos from the camera to the Web, where they would then be sent to your online photo-sharing site and to your computer via the Web-based Eye-Fi Service," the Eye-Fi crew said.
'Smart Boost' enables the Eye-Fi card to direct photo transfers via Wi-Fi to a computer, thus allowing the software to relay the photos to the Web. The approach aims to leverage the speed of local area networks to transfer photos from the camera, reducing card activity and conserving battery life.
Users hoping to make use of 'Smart Boost' must update to the latest Eye-Fi Card firmware version by choosing 'Check for Updates' from the Eye-Fi icon in the menu bar or in the Windows system tray. Updating the Eye-Fi Card's firmware requires inserting the card into a computer with the Eye-Fi Manager running. Support documentation is available for updating Eye-Fi Manager software as well as the Eye-Fi Card firmware.
