MacBook Air ships, upper model on Feb. 6th
Users who pre-ordered the entry-level MacBook Air are reportedly getting shipping notices regarding their machines, and are being told that they can expect to receive them on February 1st. This is mere days over the two-week estimate Steve Jobs gave at the Macworld Expo keynote, while users who ordered the upscale model will wait until February 6th. Current shipping times are listed at two to three weeks on the Apple web store.
Many in the Mac community have met the MacBook Air with mixed feelings. USA Today wrote that the MacBook Air is visually stunning, with some impressive features, while lacking in other areas.
Connie Guglielmo of The Ottawa Citizen said that Apple delivered what investors expected, "just not what they wanted," citing analysts expected a bit more power in the Air's small form.
Walt Mossberg of The Wallstreet Journal was more diplomatic, saying that while the computer is very impressive, it isn’t for everyone. He recognized that the MacBook Air would be extremely helpful in certain key demographics, but power-users and gadget-minded users would be disappointed.
