Sold: 4m iPhones, 5m Leopar...

Apple today announced over 5 million copies of Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard sold, as well as 4 million iPhones, Steve Jobs said today in his Macworld Expo keynote. The iPhone has been out for approximately 200 days, which translates to 22,000 units per day, and a total market share of 19.5 percent in the US smartphone market -- second only to Blackberry manufacturer RIM, which holds 39 percent. Apple's iPhone has seen an official release in the US, France, Germany, and the UK but is not expected to see any additional releases today.

Feedback on Leopard has been very positive, according to Apple chief Steve Jobs. About 19 percent of Leopard buyers have upgraded from a previous version of Mac OS X. Leopard's launch brings over 300 new features to the Mac OS, and is claimed by Apple to be superior to Windows Vista. In addition, Jobs said that the company sold its four billionth song last week and sold a record 20 million songs on Christmas Day.
