Briefly: Speeding up Aperture

In brief: 32 ways to speed up Aperture, Linotype Cosmiqua -- a new Kobayashi typeface, a new Photoshop CS3 book has been released, the weirdest unboxing of an iPod Shuffle ever, and Miglia has expanded its distribution ... Steve Weller has put together a comprehensive list of ways to speed up Aperture. Some are quick, some are cheap, some are neither. Among them: "Turn Off Spotlight If you have images on a drive or partition separate from your boot disk, disable Spotlight for that drive. This will prevent the OS from attempting to index and reindex the library and its images and will make things a little faster."

Linotype Cosmiqua -- a new Kobayashi typeface

Linotype has announced the release of the zestful serif font family Cosmiqua, an informal homage to the futuristic visions of the past from the hand of Linotype's multi-talented Type Director, Akira Kobayashi. "Cosmiqua's quirky serifs and script-like swooshes illustrate a playful exuberance ideal for advertising and communication on the lighter side of life. Inspired by the youthful optimism of the 1950s and early 1900s, Cosmiqua precociously poses the eternal question, 'How did tomorrow look through the eyes of yesterday?'"

Photoshop CS3 tip book released

O'Reilly has announced a new Photoshop CS3 book with 53 easy-to-follow recipes, inspirational digital imagery, and authoritative information and advice for digital photographers, designers, and artists. The new book is by Tim Shelbourne, who says "Day can be turned to night, skin can be transformed to wood or stone, and that image of your pet dog can sport a knowing, but subtle grin. The title is priced at $30. Tim Shelbourne worked for 20 years as a traditional artist and illustrator before converting to digital image making. He specializes in digital fine art and photo-manipulation using Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and Corel Painter.
