The iPhone update, which includes a number of security fixes, also brings support for video-out to a television set or monitor and new Home Button functionality. Other enhancements include an updated Calculator icon, a developer debug mode in Safari, the ability to turn on/off EDGE services (useful when roaming), the ability to view Mail attachments in landscape mode, and. rearranged YouTube access navigation links and manual arrangement of stock quotes and weather updates for each city. Users can also change 'General Settings' to allow changing options for the Home Button (to either 'Home', 'Phone Favorites', and 'iPod' screens). Apple has also added a Keyboard option that enables a ". " shortcut: double-tapping the space bar during entry of an e-mail or text message will insert a period and a space (instead of a space-only), avoiding switching the keyboard layout to find the "." punctuation. Apple has added new text message sound effects to the 'Sounds' setting, including Tri-tone, Chime, Glass, Horn, Bell, and Electronic. The iPod Settings now contains three sets of options: Music, Video, and TV Out. Video options allow users to choose the starting point for playback: either "From beginning" or "Where Left Off." Video options lets users start playing where you left off, or at the beginning of the video, as you prefer. You can also turn closed captioning on or off. Users can also turn on/off close captioning, while "TV Out" offers widescreen (on/off) and TV signal (NTSC/PAL) options. Update: Apple also updated the iPod touch software to v1.1.1, which it says contains "bug fixes." The 150MB update is also only available via iTunes.
