Post: Wi-Fi iPod, iPhone nano are real
A news report claims that two long-rumored Apple products, a Wi-Fi-enabled iPod and the iPhone nano, are in fact real. The Washington Post says that it has obtained documents composed by an Apple partner, suggesting that both products will be released within months. The new iPod will not only have Wi-Fi but an iPhone-like touchscreen, and the iPhone nano will deliberately target a lower price point, less than the current 4GB iPhone.
The revelation of one or both devices may, as widely anticipated, coincide with Apple's special event planned for September 5th, to be staged at the Moscone Center in San Francisco. A teaser image in the invitation features a silhouetted dancer with an iPod, and the caption, "The beat goes on." This may however be a reference to The Beatles, whose album catalog may finally make an appearance at the iTunes Store.
Another possible product announcement for the 5th is a new, video-enabled iPod nano, for which images emerged that were quickly forced offline by Apple. Though unconfirmed, it may have features such as a wider screen and an aluminum face.
The iPhone nano has been rumored for several months, but if real may ship as early as the holiday season, and use technologies built for a smaller size such as click-wheel dialing and a backside touchpad.
