| Apple has launched a Power Mac G5 Repair Extension Program for some Power Mac G5 systems experiencing power-related issues. The problem stems from a specific component failure within the computer's power supply, resulting in failure to start up after the power button is pressed and/or no LED activity. Owners of Power Mac G5 systems sold between approximately October of 2005 and August of 2006 featuring Dual 2GHz, Dual 2.3GHz, or Quad 2.5GHz PowerPC G5 processors who are experiencing these issues should contact an Apple or Apple Authorized Service Provider to determine whether the computer is part of the program, or check to see whether a particular Power Mac G5 system is covered by reviewing the serial number located inside the case directly below the air deflector. Valid serial number ranges include any number where the first five digits are CK539, CK608, G8539, G8608, YM539, YM608, RM539, and RM608. Apple requires owners of G5 Power Macs experiencing these issues to phone the local Apple Support Contact Center, or bring the systems to an Apple Store or Authorized Apple Service Provider. Following an examination of the power supply, the technician will arrange for a repair free of charge if the failing component is identified. Apple guarantees each power supply after the repair for up to two years from the original date of purchase, even if the Mac is out of warranty.
