Apple releases Mac OS X Server 10.4.8 [u]
Apple's release of Mac OS X Server 10.4.8 (PowerPC version)brings a slew of improvements over the previous iteration of its Tiger operating system, including all the fixes described in the Client version as well as a few Server-only fixes: (1) avoiding AFP server deadlocks and thread starvation; (2) streaming movies to localized versions of the QuickTime Player; (3) preventing panics when operating with Xsan and other memory intensive kernel extensions; (4) vnode allocation on systems with at least 2GB of RAM; (5) handling TCP Selective Acknowledgments in congested networks; and (6) better compatibility with third party applications and devices. The update also security fixes from Apple's new Security Update 2006-006 for Panther (already included in Mac OS X 10.4.8). Users can update to Mac OS X Server 10.4.8 via the Mac OS X Software Update feature, or by downloading the update from Apple's website. [updated]
