Planar debuts stereoscopic 3D StereoMirror display
Planar Systems today announced the SD1710 StereoMirror, its stereoscopic 3D LCD monitor delivering stereo imaging. The monitor is designed for geospatial image analysis and photogrammetry. The StereoMirror functions as a 2D monitor as well, offering high resolution, flicker-free viewing, and a wide viewing angle. The SD1710 StereoMirror monitor and accessories are available through Planar and direct resellers for $4,000, and comes with standard one-year advance replacement service with two-day business shipping.
The Planar SD1710 StereoMirror is composed of two 17-inch AMLCD monitors in an up/down configuration separated at a 110-degree angle. A semitransparent mirror is positioned at a bisecting angle between the two monitors that, when combined with polarizing glasses, generates the stereo separation. The unique beam-splitter approach creates a stereoscopic 3D monitor that retains the full resolution, response time and color saturation of the individual monitors.
Viewing stereo images independent of position requires the use of comfortable, lightweight polarized glasses (similar to sunglasses). Both eyes see a continuous flicker-free image, which reduces eye strain and discomfort. Future imaging applications may include medical imaging, molecular modeling, CAD/architecture and computer gaming.
