A new update to Mac OS X Tiger is expected this summer which will address some of the persisting remaining problems with enterprise networking which still persist, according to an eWEEK report. The update will also reportedly fix continuing problems regarding integration with Microsoft's Activity Directory and SMB file sharing--all of which are being reported in discussion forums at Apple's Web site and around the internet.

Virtual Private Network (VPN) connectivity, including connecting to Cisco's concentrators, is one of the more persistent problem areas. VPN clients which worked under previous versions of Mac OS X were found to be incompatible with version 10.4.0 (Tiger), before Apple released the 10.4.1 update which fixed a kernel bug enabling some VPN client developers to release Tiger-compatible versions of their software. Cisco released two versions of its post-Tiger VPN client, however some problems still remain. A release in May (version 4.6.03) caused kernel panics on dual-processor Macs which the company acknowledged upon the release. In June Cisco came through with a more stable version 4.6.04 but noted that there were several unresolved problems with connecting through VPNs.
