WiebeTech today introduced three new combo FireWire 800/USB 2.0 storage product lines, including a new FireWire 800 fanless desktop storage enclosure (DesktopGB+800), a removable drive desktop storage system with single or dual bays (BayDock 800), and a plug-and-play hot swappable dual drive FireWire 800 hardware-based RAID (RaidTECH). WiebeTech also cuts prices on select existing FireWire 400 products.
The new DesktopGB+800 provides dual FireWire 800 ports (FW 400 compatible) and a USB 2.0 port utilizing WiebeTech's popular DesktopGB fanless enclosure. It provides transfer rates of approximately 50MB per second. It will ship in mid-November (around the 12th) starting at $160 (case-only). Other models include 80GB ($240), 120GB/2MB cache ($260), 120GB/8MB cache ($280), 180GB ($340), 200GB ($380), 250GB ($480), and 300GB ($580).
The BayDock 800, a storage system utilizing removable trays, will be available in single and dual bay configurations. The dual bay configuration is available with individual FireWire 800 bridge boards for each bay, enabling easy-configuration of software-based RAIDs for performance in excess of 80MB per second. It includes a hot-swappable single bay and an intelligent drive display. Both configurations are expected to ship next week for starting at $200 (case-only for single drive bay); other single-bay models include 120GB ($350), 180GB ($430), 250GB ($570), and 300GB ($670), while the dual-drive bay models start at $250 (case-only). WiebeTech also cut prices existing FireWire 400 BayDock configurations.
WiebeTech's new RaidTECH provides hot-swappable dual drive bays in a hardware-based RAID array that is compatible with both Mac OS 9/X. The disk array may be set as RAID 0 (striped) or RAID 1 (mirrored) by switch selection and includes daisy-chainable FireWire 800 and USB 2.0 ports. The first models are expected to ship next week, starting at $600 for the case-only configuration. Dual-drive configurations are available in 2x120GB ($840), 2x180GB ($840), and 2x250GB ($1280).
