OSOpinion.com has published an article entitled "Ten Reasons To Love Mac OS X." Author Kelly McNeill writes "The bottom line is that OS X comes out on top of its competitors with its astounding choice of applications and platforms. There's only one OS that allows you to simultaneously run and use software such as Excel, MySQL, GIMP, Photoshop, iMovie and iTunes, and play a DVD."

it seems like a positive attitude is the outlook with the general public.

Why ? Are you kidding ?

    To dsmithmacnn:

Freedom of choice ! I know it's very useful for me. It frightens me to see people having become that monomanic like you. Freedom of choice is a great thing and I for one make use of it. If you just want monopolies, go work for Windoze...

    Why... When you need to.

I run MySQL because I develop on it for a client and I don't want to buy a stinking Intel Linux machine just for testing. It is nice to be able to develop Unix apps with the super nice Mac tools like BBEdit, CodeWarrior, etc.. The Linux world is way behind in that respect.

    Why? Cuz I want to!

When I watched a DVD on 9.1, I had to quit all my other programs to get decent speed. AIM, Hotline, CW. Couldn't even d/l anything.

The first time I played a DVD on 10.1, I was chatting with friends on the movie, downloading some dev software from apple's dev connection site, and the movie was playing perfectly. Sure, it used half the CPU, but heck, that's WAY better than on 9.1 when it was using all of the CPU.

It's also nice to have a DVD player that pauses on the frame you tell it to instead of half a second later and then losses audio sync. =)

    overreaction

Areh... can you say "overreaction"?! What a d*** response that was to dssmith's post. I don't think anyone simply asking a question deserves that sort of negativity. Anyway, it's a valid question, albeit a rhetorical one -- nobody actually needs to run all of those particular apps at one time. The point was simply that OS X's design makes such a thing possible.

count me as a new convert

i had been holding off on migrating to OS X out due to speed and lack of some functions. at work, however, i was planning on starting to learn to work with apache/mysql/perl soon and likewise didn't want to buy a whole new machine.

given all the mostly positive reviews, i finally picked up a copy of 10.1 and installed last night. it looks like it is going to be a lot of fun! it will still take awhile to get used to Aqua but speed-wise it is a lot less painful than Public Beta. and i just love being able to access the Unix underneath (having been a Unix user since 1988).

    Review was lame...

I love Mac OS X as much as the next person, but as reviews go, this was so flat and uninformative.

I've seen better reports in C-Net and ZDNet and they seem to cater to the Wintel crowd.

This was just a goofy writeup. Looked like something she did in about twenty minutes.

But the end comparison was excellent.
