Apple's Palo Alto retail store is set to open tomorrow, as noted previously by MacNN. It is Apple's first street-front store, while most others are located in high-traffic malls, according to an Interactive Week article that also notes the Apple store is built around "solution bays and also has an area for kids with iMacs set on a tabletop at kids' height and flanked by shelves of educational and games software. The articles also notes that an average of 7,100 people visit its stores around the country. Update: The Albany store is expected to open on October 13th. [updated]

Managing that store is (possibly) going to be one of the hardest jobs in retail. It's whithin Cycleing distance of Jobs' house. You just know he's going to be 'checking up on the way past' at leat once a week.

    Albany store

The Albany store should also be a real winner. Anyone who's spent any time in Albany (or in my case, Troy), knows that there is NOTHING to do, particularly in winter. Nothing to do except go to Crossgates Mall. This place is arguably the hub of civilization (such as it is) in the Capital District, and should be a huge boost to Apple's visibility.

Does anyone have info regarding stores in the Northwest?? I haven't heard of any stores opening in Portland or Seattle (the 2 major metro areas in the NW). Thanks in advance for any info!

    Street Front Store

The Easton Town Center Store in Columbus, OH is actually a street front store. Most of the complex is an open air pedestrian streetscape. It is kind of like they turned a mall into an instant city.
