    can anyone say...

Palm killer? The Pocket PCs I've played with are as close to being a worthy successor to the Newton as you could get.

    Could be....

I've generally stayed away from PocketPC's either because of bulk (I have a Palm Vx so just about anything seems bulky..:), battery life or no software, or a poor OS, but with PocketPC 2002 this seems to be changing. They even have a transcriber which has a newton-like HWR ability of mixed cursive/print/etc. The ability to synch with a Mac with some of these new devices could be a Palm killer indeed. The new devices from HP, Compaq and Toshiba all look really interesting.

    Nice

I used to have a Pocket PC (iPaq) and had to get rid of it when I switched to using a Mac at work because it wouldn't sync. I'd definitely consider buying another one now this software is out. Say what you like about Micro$oft but the PocketPC is an amazing bit of kit and far superior to the Palm I used to have.

    Forget PocketPC

Forget the PocketPC, if you need a handheld with "newton-like" capabilities, just buy an old Newton. Just because they haven't been produced for a couple of years dosen't mean they aren't up to par, there are great products (newtourage) out there that make the newton synch to up-to-date software like entourage so you can still use your favorite desktop products. The Newton is STILL a viable product! And on that note, COME ON APPLE, give us a NEW NEWTON!!!
