Microsoft is changing its upgrade policy for corporate customers, which will require them to purchase upgrades as they are released, whether they want them or not. Most firms will see costs rise 33% to 107%, according to the Gartner Group.

    hehe....

God I love it. My stupid friends who've been talking about how great, and misunderstood Microsoft is, must be loving this. Typical MS practices they take over the market through illegal means, then change the rules of the game. It's absolutely ridiculous they aren't being broken up.

    tuition

And of course, and colleges/tech school that rely on MS products will have an increase in tuition to cover the cost.

    How is that legal?!?

I'm no lawyer but there's something about this that seems like it can't be legal. Anyone here a lawyer that could shed some light on it?

To the poster above who said universities would be effected thus raising tuition costs, the change is policy only effects corporate customers as noted above.

    The final frontier?

I find it funny that nobody realizes what actions like this will mean down the road. Can you imagine the computer world at the end of this decade? M$ currently "controls" the application industry (but only be the choice of their victims) and their sites are set on the internet. What will stop them from making the internet a wholly-owned M$ subsidiary where they will charge us monthly "upgrade" fees just to get online?

This is why we need anti-trust law protection now before it is too late!!!
