Business Week's "Byte of Apple" column talks about Netscape's recent Navigator 6.01 release: "The underdog browser's 6.01 version is challenging Microsoft Explorer. Even Mac surfers who won't be using it should cheer."

    Could be wrong...

...but I'd guess that more Mac users use iCab as their second browser these days. I know I do. Netscrape is just awful.

    YeeHaaw, WHoo Hoo Ariba!

Now why does it suck so much?

Right now I'm using IE 5 in mostly classic. The ONLY thing keeping me from moving to another browser (Omniweb included) is the lack of the auto-URL menu system. In Windows, all of these work the same way across all browsers, but on the Mac neither Netscape nor Omnigroup can get it quite right, which is the way IEMac/IE Winblows/Netscape Winblows do it.

    What is the problem?

What do you mean? IE for X does the auto-URL thing. it fills it in as soon as you start typing. i dont think you know what you are missing...

and last time i checked, Netscape 6 did the auto-URL thing also, it's just a little slower overal at doing EVERYTHING!

    Huh?

Can someone tell me when Netscape v6.01 was recent? I think it's up to v6.1 now... Better check yourself before you wreck yourself, Mr. Haddad.

And I prefer Netscape/Mozilla over IE. It's faster, way faster.

    Netscape/Mozilla

While being a UNIX user for many years we have all grown to love the Mozilla projects. As you may or maynot know IE is not available for UNIX and rightfully so we are glad. One of the main reasons beside speed people haven't been using netscape for some time now is because of the standards it uses for redering pages. If you ask any web designer netscape communicator packages always had poor rendering as far as loading pages they way they were supossed to be loaded. This itself has cut back many users from using this product. While Mozilla has come along way in the market with fixing bug after but they are still playing catch up and secondly aim on being a different type of browser for a different type of user. With that said. We can all enjoy each browser for whats its good for and only pray that netscape turns around and finally gets out of its little hole.

I really love the popup-killer, it kills all the popup while loading the page and still runs all the Java stuff (no graph. interface yet) but i really really hate the page rendering. At times its better than IE but with some forums the flashing is annoying me to much.

If you've used recent versions of Mozilla on a PC, you know the Mac versions are no comparison. I prefer Moz on Win98 to IE 5.5. On Mac IE wins the day easily. Sad that Moz on Mac is so bad.

    IE not for UNIX?

I have no idea what you're talking about. IE is very available to UNIX. In fact, here is the URL.
