The Canon EOS-1D, a new digital SLR camera, offers 4-megapixel resolution, continuous shooting speed of 8 fps for up to 21 consecutive frames at full resolution, and an "exceptionally strong dust and weather-resistant magnesium alloy body."

Other features of the EOS-1D include a 45-point autofocus, a 21-point evaluative metering system, and numerous functions for fine-tuning camera settings as well as new RAW + JPEG mode which can capture a RAW image and JPEG simultaneously. The EOS-1D has a single slot for Type I or II CompactFlash (CF) memory cards and a FireWire interface.

The $6,500 camera is bundled with Adobe Photoshop LE for image editing and Canon's RemoteCapture for real-time single frame shooting, self-timer shooting, and interval shooting.

    Pricey? No.

First, though it only has a 4 megapixel CCD, pixel size is way bigger than that on the Nikon D1x. The CCD is much, much bigger physically, so photos will probably look much better on the Canon vs Nikon at the same resolution.

8 FPS in a digital camera is nifty...+FireWire support...and a decent body, wow. The F5 is a nice body, but not nearly as beefy.

    Pricey, kind of.

The problem with this camera is that it's a sort of pro camera, but I 'd have to see output to really make a judgement call. It's definately a better price than the $21,500 (!!!) back for my RZ67, but still $6,500 is a lot to pay for a digital camera in an EOS body.

I'd like to see Canon put out a "Rebel-D" or "iRebel" that has the Rebel body with a 3.1-4 mp ccd in it. I bet they could put that out in the 1k range, and I'd buy it in a second. Well, in the next couple months anyway. ;-)
