FireWriter offers FireWire characters

Focus Enhancements has unveiled the FireWriter, a digital video character generator equipped with FireWire connections (IEEE 1394) for use with video source, storage, and playback devices. The device anti-aliases titles and character by character attributes like font, font size, color, shadow, outline, and 256 levels of transparency. With the device, users can superimpose JPEG images over videos and other backgrounds. FireWriter is available at an U.S. suggested retail price of $2195.00.

... that's about $2,194.99 out of my 'video hobbyist' price range. guess i'll stick to imovie's text services and give up on video/viedo overlays ;-).
