    Quck Time next step

For Quick Time to take the next step Apple needs to brake Q.T. into it's own company and fund it as its own CO. this would encourage more cross platform use and be more competitive with Real Player and Media Player.

    QuickTime

QuickTime has definitely been the breaking influence that allowed digital video to happen. Anyone remember the grainy 160 x 120 pixel movies that were a staple of the 68030 days of the IIci, IIfx and other such beasts? I remember one major factor that changed everything at the time was the Video Spigot, a card that allowed (finally!) input of video into a Mac for under $500.

    quik no more

while quiktime was a major step up in the 90's what is it now? its behind windows media player and the slop microsoft choosesto shove down its users throats and its behind real media who has extremely aggresive marketing even though thier product sucks a** on the mac. the only thing quicktime is good for in the peecee market is viewing the occasional movie online. continuous offerings like asf, open divx and the latest mpeg codecs make the stuff steve tries to give us, sorenson look like c***. quiktimes great for viewing multimedia on the mac and it was awesome in bringing the multimedia programs to where they are today. ahead of quiktime either in product or in number.

    pc users are idiot...

just give them a better gui with all the useless buttons and wiget that they want. radio button here, tv button there, preview, bla bla bla, a playlist (i know some of it is there, but is not intuitive compares to wmp and real) and they will use it.

i also think that i would be a best idea for apple to form quicktime inc.

    The music man

Hey Matthew...Good points. But you know what? You really ought to quit gaming the message boards with your mp3.com address.

That's really cheesy, and to the best of my knowledge, against mp3.com gaming rules.

    Be cool, man.

    RE: quik no more

You think Sorenson is c***?! Apparently you have never done a lick of video editing or any serious video work.

Get some info before you start spouting off about the quality of this or that technology.

It's just my signature and the only website I have. I have reviewed mp3.com rules and it is not against them. Nor is it gaming. Just posting my site as part of my signature to show who I am.

    Re: Sorenson

Oh, and Sorenson is amazing. Whoever said it was c*** is incorrect. Our video editor here uses it all the time for our CD-ROM and multimedia production work.

    RE:so you want some info.

do you even know what divx is? lol. divx has great ratio compression compared to sorenson not for streaming but for quality. divx is like a open source mpeg if you will and until sorenson 3 came out apple had no codec that could touch divx or asf (asf being a very fast mpeg codec type that microsoft makes) so apple gives us sorenson 3 1 year after divx and asf offerings. wtg. once again apples great at giving us good stuff but they always seem to be late. also they were many complaints to macworld and maccaddict when the magazines refered people to use sorenson that it coded very slowly which it does compared to many other popular codecs. also apple is just now giving us mpeg codecs? why bother if sorenson is so great? because we wanted mpeg all along apple just didnt want to liscence it. also my main point which you didnt even light on is that quicktime is only used on the peecee %80 of all computers just once in a great while for the odd movie here or there. also on the peecee side it acts like a mac program not a peecee program which might be good for me on my work peecee but it pisses off my peecee friends because it behaves differently. also apple does not do the cutthroat advertising and business deals that real media makes nor do they have the ever influencing arm that microsoft media player has. does this mean quicktime will continue to be a niche player like apples computers? so to "Get some info before you start spouting off about the quality of this or that technology." ah yes i forgot. you seem to be the 15 year old expert who posts 20 times a day here. then again you cant be 15 if u used the word lick. and no ive never done any serious movie work because i dont work for a movie company. ive just done live internet streams, movies on cd's for mdirector presentations etc. oh and im not above calling people names if they have a difference of opinion.

    ah no sorenson

im sorry when i said sorenson looked like c*** i was comparing it to the latest compression codecs because thats the best apple has to offer. sorenson looks fine if you code it with good quality. however what confused me is why does a sorenson movie that looks the same as a divx movie weigh in 45 megs bigger for a 2 hour movie? the answer simply was it had a better compressor. thats why i see these huge movies compressed with it all the time. and while i dontlike microsoft at all there asf gets great compression and is used by way more people aka the peecee world. i just wish for once apple could bring me what everyone else is using for a change since what there using isnt bad and is sometimes better.
