Popular Science recognizes Cube

Popular Science has bestowed its Design & Engineering Award 2001 on Apple's Cube in the Best of What's New 2000 area. The Cube was the only computer honored with the award that recognizes innovation, invention, design and engineering. "Words like 'striking' and 'inspiring' are rarely used to describe desktop computers. But they seem almost insufficient to describe Apple's rapturous Power Mac G4 Cube."

    Design vs Price

    The Lisa was striking too. I recently passed on the Cube because of price vs. features. Had it been priced at around $1300 to $1395, I would have seriously considered it over the low end G4 at $1595.

    Design vs Price

    Why does everybody talk about the Cube as if it had *less* features than the G4 tower, and therefore had to be cheaper? To me, the feature that it makes no noise is easily worth $200-$300, as it makes me much more productive. The Cube is clearly higher end than the G4 tower, and therefore costs more for a good reason. Raw machine speed isn't everything in ergonomics...
